She was discovered by SM Entertainment during a family trip to South Korea when she was just five years old. Initially, her family declined an opportunity for her to train as a performer, allowing her older sister, Jessica, to join the agency instead. Jessica later debuted with the iconic girl group Girls' Generation in 2007. Krystal herself began her career in entertainment in 2002, appearing in television commercials, including her first notable role in a Lotte ad alongside actress Han Ga In. In 2009, Krystal officially debuted as a member of the girl group f(x), which quickly gained popularity for its unique sound and style.
