Shin Min-ah, born April 5, 1984 with the birth name Yang Min-ah, is a popular South Korean actress and model. Her family consists of a father, mother, older sister, and brother. In middle school, she sent a photo from a school picnic to the teen magazine KiKi and was chosen as a model for the publication, later appearing in commercials and music videos. She made her acting debut in the 2001 film Volcano High and followed it two years later with Madeleine. Her breakout performance came in the 2005 gangster film A Bittersweet Life, where her character Hee-soo displayed a mixture of purity and maturity that captivated South Korean audiences. Since that time, she has received an assortment of acting offers from top Korean directors and has expanded her repertoire by selecting varied roles, from the martial-arts comedy My Mighty Princess to a 1970s go-go dancer in Go Go 70s to the smaller independent film Sisters on the Road. In 2009, she participated in the project Miracle Blue, a collaboration with the Korean alternative band Loveholic and the fashion design company Calvin Klein, in which she sings in the music video and performs characters that range from child-like innocence to a sexy blonde-haired singer.
