Her portrayal of a political activist in "Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance" marked her as a notable talent in the industry. Bae's international acclaim surged with her roles in "The Host" (2006) as archer Park Nam-joo and in the unique film "Air Doll" (2009) as a lifelike sex doll.
